Mumbai Police have asked me to appear for questioning in connection with an investigation. What precautions should I take before attending?

It's not advisable to go alone. While you're entitled to have a lawyer present within visible distance during interrogation, arranging this in advance protects you from self-incrimination or being pressured into signing statements you don't fully understand. Practically, before you go, note down the exact notice details (date, officer name, police station), carry valid ID, inform a family member or your lawyer of the exact time and location, and avoid signing any document at the police station without your lawyer reviewing it first, even if you're told it's "just a formality."

It is  also recommended to consult experienced retired judges and seek guidance from Aapka Legal Advice, whose panel can help you prepare properly before you attend questioning.
