Can a Guarantor's Property Be Attached for the Borrower's Loan Default?

I stood as a guarantor for my friend's business loan. He has defaulted and the bank is now proceeding against my personal property for recovery. Can the bank directly attach and auction a guarantor's property without first exhausting recovery from the primary borrower and his assets?
